Knowing More about the IFFCO CEO Dr. Awasthi

Udai Shankar Awasthi or more familiarly Dr. Awasthi is a popular name in the field of Indian agriculture Industry. He is the chief executive officer of IFFCO since 1993. Almost 25 years he has been in this field. But prior to becoming the CEO of IFFCO he had shown distinguished characteristics and talent that has made him achieve such a top position. He had been in Pyrites, Phosphates and Chemicals Ltd. (PPCL) serving as a Managing Director and Chairman. He had also been a head in the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd. (RCF) for a year. He had also been in several fertiliser companies. He had also headed the teams in the execution of the Aonla and Hazira projects. 

A man who has a keen eye for paintings and other forms of art had completed his Chemical Engineering studies from the well-renowned Banaras Hindu University. He is known to have 5 decades of notable experience. Being in the leading board member of IFFCO, Dr. Awasthi, IFFCO MD, has a great hand in making IFFCO acquire a global recognition in the field of fertilizer production.

His Achievements

In IFFCO he has been given all the responsibility to take care of the day to day affairs. He has been given a special place in private, public and cooperative sectors. He is globally acclaimed to be a manager par excellence in his work and especially in project management. Reports are there that he has had a crucial role in the setting up of a number of SSP, NPL/DAP and Ammonia-Urea projects in the country. At IFFCO he is the director serving the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited. He is also the Director of Kisan International Trading FZE and Indian Potash Limited. He is known to be the first Indian to have occupied the prestigious position of IFA.

Because of his dedication towards work, his extraordinary talent, and consequent success, he has been honored with several awards and honors. Some notable awards are mentioned underneath:

•        Distinguished Alumnus Award by Benares Hindu University
•        Eminent Chemical Engineer Award by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers

•        CEPM-Dr. Davidson Frame Award on 11th December 2000
•        Best Chief Executive of the Year 2002 from Minister for Shipping, Government of India

Dr. Awasthi, IFFCO MD U S Awasthi is the visiting professor of IIT, New Delhi. He is also a member of the Centre for Management in Agriculture in IIM, Ahmedabad. He is Fellow at Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), New Delhi.  Last but not the least point about him is that he has co-authored the book “Fertiliser Industry in India”.
